About the BCB Band
I was on tour a few years ago with some good musician friends of mine, and after sound checks we would have a jam, playing some of our favourite songs. We have now decided we should go out a play some gigs just for fun and see if people enjoy listening to our material as much as we enjoy playing it.

Steve Gadd Clinic. 19th April
The Steve Gadd Clinic in Reading has been cancelled. Not even the great Steve Gadd could walk on water from America. They are hoping to reschedule later this year.
Many of my students ask me, how do I tune my drums? Every drummer has his own preferred method. Obviously, the best way to learn, is to watch someone else tuning but here is the basic method I use.
1) Put the new head on the drum. Tighten the turning rods with thumb and forefinger as tight as you can. This should take out the slack.
2) With one hand push down with the tips of your fingers in the middle of the drumhead. Now tightening the tuning rods with your other hand, half a turn at a time, work across the drum, never around the drum.
3) You should find after one to one and a half turns all the wrinkles have gone, if not work on that area only. The drum should now resonate freely.
4) Now tap around the drum to check that the drumhead is in tune with itself. It’s now down to personal taste how high or low you want your drums to sound. Most drummers have the bottom head slightly higher than the top head.
5) You now need to get the drums in tune with each other. I like my toms to fall in pitch by a 3rd. It’s best not to tune a specific note.
6) The Bass Drum head should be just tight enough to lose the wrinkles, with the front a little tighter. I have a small hole in the front head to give access for a microphone, and sometimes a very small blanket to take out some of the ring. I also have a patch where the beater strikes, this will make the head last longer.
Thought for the Month
The most important area that all musicians must continually develop,
Is their ability to listen.
Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.”
